MARCH 2009 - Halfway home.
It's been a long and cold winter, but spring and final exams are just around the corner. Beta Gamma has had an active semester once again. We are in the midst of educating our new members and they are learning fast. Professional and community projects have also continued on as well. The chapter has hosted various blood pressure screenings, presented the Drugs of Abuse lecture and participated in the Fraternity's Prescription for Hope Campaign in support of St. Jude Children's Hospital. In the coming weeks we will be participating in Relay for Life, holding another Sausagefest, and honoring our graduates with our annual Senior Banquet.
Finally, there's been some new additions to the website on the Calendar and Pictures pages. Also, you can check out our Fall Service Report which has numerous pictures and details of all our Fall 2008 projects by clicking here. That's about all for now. Remember to keep checking back as we will be posting the Beta Gamma Rays as well as our first video from our new educational video series, "Know Your Drug."

JANUARY 2009 - New year, another semester, same old Beta Gamma.
It was a busy semester here at Duquesne for the brothers of Beta Gamma. With no pledge class in the fall, our chapter turned its energies towards professional and community service. One of our goals for this year was to restore the image of our chapter on campus as well as within the Fraternity. Our brothers were very active both on and off campus in our various projects and events.
Being a fraternity of young men, our brothers take a special interest in the issues facing men today. We observe October as "Men's Health Month" and sponsor and host various fundraisers and professional events throughout the month. These included a presentation at a local Mason's Lodge meeting, informational displays at a local Walgreen's about prostate cancer, and several fundraisers for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Our main event was our 2nd annual Men's Health Fair which took place in the atrium of the student union. We offered counseling, created educational displays and handed out patient education to those interested. The topics included prostate and testicular cancer, ED, BPH and tobacco use. We also offered blood pressure screenings. Several alumni faculty as well as our advisor took part in the fair.
Our professional projects also included the "Drugs of Abuse" lecture series that we presented to local high school students and an informational seminar about fellowships within the pharmaceutical industry. Several brothers also participated in the new Duquesne Medication Management Program.
Service to our community and participation in community events and fundraisers were also an integral part of our work this semester. Brothers particpated in the JDRF Walk for the Cure, the ADA Walk, Uptown Fall Clean-Up and Operation Christmas Child.
As you can see it was a pretty busy semester, but it was also one of the most successful. We are continuing our committment to the Fraternity and the profession this semester with even more projects and events. We are also looking forward to once again extending our brotherhood to new members this semester. Rush ended last week and we are anticipating pledging 9 new members.
We would like to thank our alumni and our advisor for their continued support as we strive to be Leaders in Pharmacy, Brothers for Life.
